The purpose of the Multicultural Learning Center Library is to promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading for the students of MLC, to assist students in becoming effective users of ideas and information, and to provide resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning.
The library is open from 8:00am to 3:30pm Monday - Thursday and students are welcome to make use of the library on their own time before school and after school with a parent.

Students are welcome in the library during morning and lunch recesses and on their own time when classes are not meeting in the library.

Please check the library schedule for open times.

The library is closed on Fridays.

CHECK OUT PROCEDURES
All MLC students are issued a computerized barcode number when they enter kindergarten. This number stays with each child throughout his/her years at MLC.

Every student is required to turn in a permission slip to borrow books from the
MLC Library and the Readers' Workshop collection.

Parents may also request a barcode number so that they, too, may check out library books with their children.

The checkout period for students and parents is 2 weeks.

Students visit the library once a week to check out library books during their scheduled library time.

Please see the library schedule so you can help your child remember to return library books on time
.
OVERDUE BOOKS
After 2 weeks books which have not been returned or renewed become overdue and checkout privileges are suspended until the book(s) are returned.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students may check out one book at a time.  Students in 2nd - 7th grades may check out two books at a time.

Weekly overdue notices are given to classroom teachers as a reminder for students that books have become overdue.

Monthly overdue notices will be sent home to parents on flyer day as a request to help children search for overdue books.

Lost or damaged books must be paid for in full for library privileges to continue, with an additional processing fee of $5.00.   All books must be returned two weeks before the last day of school for inventory.

At the end of each school year progress reports will be withheld for students owing books or lost book fees.
With just a $25 donation, you can commemorate your child's birthday (or other special occasion) with a special "bookplated" book, and make a lasting contribution to the MLC Library

The
honoree selects a new book from the Birthday Book shelf, receives a special bookplate, is the first to check-out the book, and gets his or her photograph added to the Birthday Book Club bulletin board.

Funds raised through the Birthday Book Club are used to purchase new materials for the MLC library.
